December 1996
Purpose plays magical guitar and sings his own vision with gentle passion. His own version of folk-rock is very personal, while it speaks about issues of universal importance.

“Paint the Sky” is full of color images and features fretless bass and sweet harmonies. “I want to paint the sky/I want to laugh with the moon/I want to dance with the angels” Sleep is about, what else!, sleeping with a few surprising images and beautiful guitar playing. “I Will Run” is a beautiful poem put to music. “And it’s the love we leave in others eyes, that make our lifetimes last and last.” The slow melody of the song is accompanied by the piano. “Don’t Tear Down” is a folk-rock tune born of frustration with how things are as opposed to how they should be. The soaring melody on electric guitar and upbeat rhythm gives it a strong sound.

The liner notes say it well: “...Darryl’s songs have a way of touching the soul... the music always plucks some common chord as it kindles the heart.” His heart is good and so is his music. —Mary Heckler
