Did I mention that I used to live in Hawaii, several lifetimes ago? This album opens with a song about a woman who swims across treacherous waters to an island off shore from the village of Hana, on Mauis eastern shore, and from the moment I first heard it I knew that Darryl Purpose and I had been to many of the same places, inside and outside.
Thats whats remarkable about this album, that every tune transports the listener to a different mental spacewhich is, after all, what good music is supposed to be about. Darryls voice is warm and accessible, his lyrics are graphic and colorful, his melodies are transcendent, and his guitar playing is clean and robust. The album was produced by Naked to the Worlds Kevin Fisher, whose precise touch renders a perfect result. -Paul Schatzkin (aka The Perfesser)
