Biography
Dirty Linen, Oct—November 1998
A professional blackjack player who has been banned from numerous casinos, Darryl Purpose should find life just as stable being a folk singer/songwriter. Following his fine 1995 debut, Right Side of Zero, Purpose has grown immeasurable. Blessed with an affably gentle voice, at times reminiscent of James Taylor, as well as solid guitar skills, he alchemizes these talents with a wonderful songwriting ability. This album, recorded live in the studio with guest violinist Daryl S (from Naked to the world), is pure enjoyment. Guilty of sounding like a veteran of the folk circuit far beyond his recorded output, Purpose will hopefully garner a larger audience, as he certainly merits. Don’t be surprised if, in the near future, another more celebrated artist covers one of his songs, transforming it into a hit. —Pieter Hofmann
