Fish Records - October 2001

This album, Darryls third on the New York based Tangible Music label is the ideal showcase for his songwriting talents. He has an ability to capture his observations and real life adventures - he crafts lifes experiences into intelligent, melodious and captivating songs.
Musically it contains some intricate guitar work from Darryl and some subtle assistance from string and bass in placesthere is a good mix of acoustic tracks and a few out and out band numbers add contrast to the set. Theres strong support on the album from some exceptional musicians, and a few star turns in the form of support from Ellis Paul and theres a great duet with Lucy Kaplansky on Ring on My Hand.
There are numerous stand out tracks on the disc, ranging from the disarming Mr Schwinn which absorbs the listener with its narrative (the song was the winner of a national songwriting contest), and the fantastic Last Great Kiss of the 20th Century - a fitting way to end Decembers album of the month.
Travelers Code is an accomplished and mature album which will undoubtedly help raise the profile of one of the folk scenes most exciting singer-songwriters. A real find.
